Robyn's 60th: Themed Marquee Scalextric Hire for a Milestone Birthday Party in Leicester

When Robyn started planning her 60th birthday weekend at her farm in Leicester, she wasn't after a cake and a few balloons. She wanted a full two-day celebration — and for Day 2, an entertainment centrepiece that would get every guest involved. Robyn's 60th was structured as a full birthday weekend at her farm near Leicester, with Day 2 — Sunday 30th August, 11am to 3pm — dedicated to a proper party. The marquee would host a country band, a hog roast and a charity raffle for the local air ambulance, and Robyn wanted an activity that would keep guests of all ages busy, competitive and talking all afternoon.

• Realistic scenery — sand and brush detailing that gave the circuit a proper vintage desert-racing feel
• A live digital leaderboard — real lap timing, so every guest race had genuine competitive stakes

Set up inside the marquee with its clear walls looking out over the farm, the track was protected from the elements and visible from every corner of the party — birthday entertainment that doubles as a centrepiece.

The Racing: Fast Laps Between the Country Band and the Hog Roast

Racing ran from 11am to 3pm alongside the rest of the celebrations, and the leaderboard quickly became the talk of the party. Guests queued between helpings of hog roast, timed their laps between songs from the country band, and checked the board after every run.

By the end of the afternoon, Craig had taken fastest lap of the day with a 6.56-second flyer — with Henry and Jon breathing down his neck, both posting 6.7. A proper podium, decided to the hundredth of a second.

And the wider day had real heart too: alongside the racing, the party raised money through a charity raffle for the local air ambulance — a cause close to rural communities like Robyn's. We were proud to be part of it.
